Player of the Week | by Pat

Brady Quinn's effort against the Boilermakers hasn't gone unnoticed as he was named National Player of the Week by The Sporting News.

Playing his best game in an Irish uniform, Quinn was unstoppable as he completed over 80% of his passes for 440 yards and 3 touchdowns. He also passed Rick Mirer's career 5,997 yards as Quinn become only the third Notre Dame quarterback to pass for 6,000 yards in a career. The other two quarterbacks who share that honor are Ron Powlus and Steve Beuerlien. Quinn also continued his quest to re-write every single Notre Dame quarterback record on file.

If Quinn is going to make noise in the Heisman voting this year, this honor is a good way to get the publicity machine started. Another is to be named Cingular/ABC Sports All-American of the Week.

Quinn is currently nominated for this award alongside Michael Hart of Michigan, LenDale White of Southern Cal, and Zac Taylor of Nebraska. As this particular award is determined by fan votes, if you want to vote for Quinn (cough, cough) you can follow the above link for directions. The voting will end on October 5th. Now, even though this is an obviously biased website, I still think it would be a bit unseemly to put the directions on the blog and openly encourage votes for Quinn without considering the fine efforts of Hart, White, and Taylor. So, you'll have to click on the above link to find out the stats for the other contenders and how to vote for Quinn your player of choice.
